I cannot withhold any longer my testimony of what...
I cannot withhold any longer my testimony of what Christian Science has done for me and mine. My ailment began when I was about twenty-four. From that time I was not able to do any hard work. I took much medicine and consulted many physicians, some of whom pronounced it lung trouble, some heart trouble, and so on. I grew worse and worse, so that I was compelled to give up my business. I began to seek help through spiritualism and was told that I might die during the coming winter. This was in September, 1902. This only added more fear and agony, as I did not know what to do to prevent it, everything having failed me. Death seemed to be staring me in the face, and every one's looks seemed to be telling me that my days were numbered. In my despair I tried dieting, massage, etc., but all failed.
At this time I met a lady who recommended me to try Christian Science. She said it had helped her daughter of an ailment similar to mine. I then went to a practitioner, and after a few treatments I felt relieved of the mental disturbances and also of much of the physical suffering. I was then advised to purchase a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and to read the Bible, which I willingly did. The practitioner told me to read Psalms 23 and 91 after I got to my hotel, which I did, and I could not keep back the tears when I saw how I had been robbed of a most precious treasure by mortal ignorance.
After two weeks' treatment I went home to work out my own salvation. Later I wrote for help and was under treatment two months, concluded that I should work harder myself, with the knowledge I then had of Christian Science, knowing well that I need not seek for any other way in healing. I have been pressing on, denying the reality of the errors which beset all mortals, and the mist begins to clear away, and the presence God, good, becomes more real to me.
