It is over six years since I was healed by Christian Science after I had been given up by four doctors. My sickness began with inflammation of the bowels, and soon after that I found a hard lump on my right side which caused me great pain all the time. The doctors said I must go through an operation, which I did. After the operation I was not able to eat or sleep, and every organ in my body seemed to be out of order. The doctor said one kidney was twice as large as it should be; my heart was so weak that I often had fainting spells, and there had been no natural action of the bowels for months. I often had convulsions for two hours at a time, so that at last it was necessary to have a man as nurse, to hold me when these attacks came on. In five months I was only out of my bed once. I could not retain any food, either liquid or solid, and I was like a skeleton.

At this time I was living on a farm in Wallace, Ontario, and often when my husband left me for a little time to attend to his work, he did not expect to find me alive when he came back. Twice I was so far gone that they thought I was dead. I was in this condition when as a last hope I asked to have Christian Science treatment. When the Scientist came and saw so many bottles of medicine on my table, she explained that I must choose between Science and drugs. In my weakness this seemed a very hard thing to do, and my husband would give me no help as he was opposed to Christian Science. The Scientist told me not to worry, that I should be led to do what was best, and she read to me that evening from the Psalms. I slept quietly that night, and in the morning I said, "I will have Christian Science and nothing else."

I told my husband to take away all the medicine, that I would have no more of it. At the first treatment I began to improve, and could retain solid food the first day, which I had not been able to do for five months, and in four days I walked to the kitchen. At the end of the week, to the amazement of every one, I went to Berlin, where I had friends, taking a drive of five miles over rough country roads and a railway journey of several hours. At the end of a month I came home well. Although the doctors said the healing would not last, and that I would never be able to work again, I was able to do all the work of a farmer's wife, and sometimes helped the men to throw sheaves into the barn. In threshing time I did the cooking for eighteen men all alone. A month's treatment in Christian Science had healed me physically and mentally. Since that time over six years ago, I have done a great deal of hard work, and have felt stronger than ever before. The Bible tells us that it is God who girdeth us with strength, and I have found through experience that it is true. In all this time I have never used medicine of any kind, and every need has been met by divine Love.
