When Christian Science came to me the prophecy of...
When Christian Science came to me the prophecy of Isaiah was fulfilled, "Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily." I was in the darkness of despair and it led me to the light. For twelve years I had been an invalid and had grown to be a physical wreck; the only way I could walk about my room was by holding on to the furniture. One physician after another was called, until twelve had tried in vain. I was much like the woman of whom Scripture speaks, who "had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse." At last the doctors told me that my only hope was an operation, and I was sent to Laconia, N. h., for a change, hoping I might gain strength for the operation. Change of place proved of no value, but "man's extremity is God's opportunity." I met there a Christian Scientist and commenced treatment. For months I had had only liquid food, but the second day after my treatment began I could eat anything I desired. Five days after, I returned home, and walked from the train to my house, a distance of a quarter of a mile, knowing that God is my strength. I needed no operation, for it was proved to me that the "word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword." The almost unendurable pain in my head and side were soon removed, but the growth did not all go for several months. I am now, however, a strong and free woman; instead of weighing ninety pounds, as I did when I turned to Christian Science, I now weigh one hundred and fifty.
While my healing seems almost a miracle, sweeter far is the spiritual help I have received through Christian Science. It has made me a better Christian, and I have been able to prove the promise, "The prayer of faith shall save the sick," in several cases of healing. I long for every suffering one to receive the good which I have found. I cannot tell in words the deep happiness and peace that Christian Science has brought into my life. I do thank God for it and my prayer daily is that I may live more fully in obedience to Truth.
