In 1875 I was thrown from a carriage and severely injured

In 1875 I was thrown from a carriage and severely injured. The injury developed into what the doctors diagnosed as aneurism of the main artery passing through the bowels, and was pronounced incurable. It was also thought to be the cause of many diseases from which I was a great sufferer. I lived in constant dread of attacks which lasted from three to five hours at a time, and sometimes occurred daily for a week, until I was exhausted, and these attacks would often keep me in bed for weeks. My physicians were faithful and did all they could that I might be better able to bear the suffering. I was told by doctors of several different schools that I was liable to pass away at any time from over-exertion, still I lived on and was able to do quite a modicum of work at intervals.

In 1894 I heard of a friend who had been healed by Christian Science after having been given up by her physicians. I made up my mind that if I could go to her. I would be healed. A few months later I went to visit her. While there, I experienced the expected trouble and asked her for help. She was not a practitioner, but a faithful student of the Bible and Science and Health. While she was realizing the truth and destroying fear in the light of Christian Science, my medicine was thrown out of the window by my husband, who was with me. In fifteen minutes I was freed, was dressed, and ate supper with the family. The next day I walked two miles. After a few days we procured the Christian Science text-book, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and I began its earnest study. At that time I had worn glasses three years, but in less than a week after beginning the study of the text-book I laid them aside, not having any use for them, nor have I used them since. Other diseases—rheumatism, chronic constipation, bronchitis, indigestion, and many minor troubles—all vanished before the light of Truth. I have had several attacks of illness in the past ten years, but have not been tempted to go back to materia medica, for I have found Christian Science equal to every emergency. Besides, it has for us something far higher than physical healing. About two years ago I experienced troubles that had not been wholly wiped out. I tried hard to overcome them myself, but finally called on one of our local practitioners for treatment. This was continued a few weeks, and in the mean time I was healed of heart trouble and grip, and was uplifted spiritually. The spiritual gain is the best of all.

For all these blessings I express loving gratitude to our heavenly Father, and to Mrs. Eddy, whose teachings have so wonderfully helped me over the rough places in my journey from sense to Soul.
