"Orthodox" clergymen—not many of them to be sure—are fond of writing to the New York papers, attacking Christian Science. It is a great mistake. The Christian Scientists are earnest, active, loyal to their church, and have unquestionably put into Christian activity a leaven that it needed. If they are deluded, upon them fall the consequences. They are firm in their faith and have a right to demand the utmost freedom in their devotion and their practice, where the laws are not disobeyed or ignored. Many of the clerical opponents who are persistently attacking them, might spend their time better in persuading their own congregations to go to church.
