I did not come into the understanding of Christian Science...

I did not come into the understanding of Christian Science through my own physical healing but through the healing of my mother, although I have been healed of many ailments since my acquaintance with it. Twelve years ago my mother fell on the ice and broke her hip bone, while on her way to church. A doctor was called in, who said there could be very little done for her as she was then about seventy-four years old, and the break was in a place where it could not be helped by material appliances. The doctor said the bones would never knit, and that she could never walk again. This accident happened in February, and she lingered on in a very weak state, by being lifted from the bed to a couch or into a chair, until the end of June, when a telegram reached me to come at once and see her before she passed away. I was then about two hundred miles from home teaching school, but I closed the school and came as quickly as possible. Shortly after my arrival mother requested me to go for a Christian Science practitioner. I was very unwilling to do so at first, but I felt that it was the last thing I could do for her and that her wish must be gratified. She improved from the first treatment, and by the end of the holidays, about six weeks, she was able to walk around the yard with crutches. She had not been taking treatment during the whole six weeks. She continued to grow stronger and could walk two miles away from home and back the same day. Later she was healed of paralysis of the arm and erysipelas of the head face. She is alive and well and is now in her eighty-seventh year.

My little son, now ten years old, was healed of eczema in its worst form, when he was a baby. The doctor said he might drop off any minute in my arms. The physical healing seems as nothing when compared with the great spiritual enlightenment gained from the study of the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. For these and many other blessings I give thanks to God and to the noble woman through whose pure life we are enabled to enjoy these blessings.
