The Impermanence of Evil

THE following sentence from a well-known writer, a deeply thinking and widely cultured man, expresses as well as is usually done a comprehension of the change which must follow the understanding and application of the teachings of Christian Science; "To accept the doctrine that moral evil and physical pain and suffering are not realities, would require me not merely to change my opinions, but to recast, so to speak, my character.

Unauthorized Literature

Some time ago we called attention to the bad practice which has grown up among some Christian Scientists of circulating certain papers and alleged copies of letters purporting to be helpful expositions of Christian Science, but which, as a rule, are misleading and harmful misinterpretations of its teachings; and as this practice has not entirely ceased, we again refer to it in the hope that those who are still circulating this spurious matter may be induced to cease from doing so.
THE scientific tendencies of the present time have led men to look for human unfoldment by orderly and sometimes slow processes; and this in contradistinction to the belief that instantaneous changes in human conditions were possible.
THE mistake of the disciples as they made their way to the sepulchre to find their Lord, is the mistake of all who are looking to materiality for the solution of life's problem.

The next admission of candidates to membership in The Mother Church will be June 5, 1906.
I came into Christian Science like the majority of people,—I forced to accept its help for physical troubles.
While seated at my writing table one day, there came upon me, without the least warning, what our medical friends would term a severe cerebral shock—caused, or said to be caused, by the rupture of a blood-vessel in the brain— which affected one side of my face and neck.
We were spending a few weeks in the country and it seemed as if our pleasure would be marred in various ways, but each time the discord was quickly overcome by the truth.
I was more or less of an invalid from childhood, suffering from very many serious troubles, and after I married I was confined to my bed for nearly two years.
All I have and all I am I owe to Christian Science, for I had almost every disease that mortal sense is heir to, and more troubles than most people.
It is now ten years since Christian Science was first presented to us.
I wish to give grateful acknowledgment of the help received through Christian Science.
