In grateful acknowledgment of the many benefits I have...
In grateful acknowledgment of the many benefits I have received through the teachings of Christian Science, I write this testimony. At a time when there seemed no help from any other source, it was presented to me as a healing agency. Having been for about three years, prior to accepting Christian Science, under medical treatment, and for several months of that time in a hospital, under the treatment of specialists, none of whom gave me any hope of entire recovery, I seemed ready and willing to try Christian Science, and I have never regretted doing so. My trouble was mainly with my eyes, and it had been with me from infancy. It was said by the doctors who attended me to have been caused by inherited scrofula. Only those who have had a similar experience can know what it is to be blind for weeks at a time, having to be confined in a room as dark as it could possibly be made, and at the same time suffering untold agony; and only those who have been freed from such bondage can know how great and blessed is the freedom. While I was under the treatment of specialists I submitted to several very painful operations. I was not permitted to read; in fact could read but little, whereas, through Christian Science, I have been enabled to read and study a great deal, even by artificial light. Who would not be grateful for this alone? But more than all the physical healing is the mental and spiritual freedom. Instead of a consciousness filled with anxieties of all sorts, and discouragement, I now enjoy a peace I never thought possible, and which is certainly unattainable without some knowledge of that truth which Jesus said would make us free. Every day brings added proof of the practicability of all Jesus' teachings in the affairs of every-day life; for we are learning that the things which he commanded his followers to do are not impossible, but are divinely natural.
Words can never express my love and gratitude to our dear Leader. Mrs. Eddy, for this wonderful revelation of Truth which is given to us in Science and Health, and my gratitude increases in proportion to my understanding of its great value to suffering humanity. I could not do without those sweet messengers of peace, the Sentinel and Journal; they are aiding so much in bringing this gospel of healing to a waiting world.
