When I first heard of Christian Science I thought that...

When I first heard of Christian Science I thought that I could not change my faith in the church under whose influence I had been in my native home in Germany, for something new. I tried not to think about what I had heard; but three weeks later I had a severe attack of cold, which medical remedies did not reach, so I asked the friend who told me of Christian Science to help me, and I was healed in one treatment. The peace which came to me I shall not forget, and with it came a longing to know, to understand the truth which makes us free. From that time—several years ago—I said, after I had read a little in Science and Health, "I will follow the thought of this book, because Mrs. Eddy could never have written it except God himself had quickened her and enabled her to know and to write this truth." Through the grace of God she has since awakened many who were asleep in their sins. After Truth, Life, and Love were revealed to her, she had to tell mankind to come to the fountain. Formerly I was engaged for several years in a medical department, in which I was instructed in Germany, and also in this country, but since I have more experience in Christian Science I have left my former work, because I could not conscientiously serve two masters. I have committed my way unto the Lord; I trust in Him, and He "will bring it to pass."

I love and esteem Mrs. Eddy, with gratitude for her labor, through which she has given us Science and Health.
