About eight years ago I experienced a very wonderful healing in Christian Science. Before this time I knew that I could be quickly relieved of all ills through the prayers of a Christian Scientist, but I did not think anything was required of me, and until this healing of which I speak, I had no desire to give up any time or thought to the following of this truth, for I thought I was very content with the pleasures of the world and society. One day, however, I found myself unable to walk. I seemed to suffer tortures in my feet and limbs, which were much discolored and swollen. I found that bathing and rubbing had no effect, so I asked a Christian Scientist to treat me. At this time a member of the family who was not a Scientist became greatly alarmed over my condition, and not being sure I was having all the help I should have, to be healed, consulted two physicians and brought back this report, with a bottle of medicine which was never touched, that in severe cases like this, which is called erysipelas, amputation was necessary to save life.
This turned me more unreservedly to God for my help. I concluded that if this was the way of materia medica I certainly would have nothing to do with it. This stand taken, I was willing to devote all my time, energy, and thought to learning of the Christ-principle which to-day casts out evils and heals the sick. A few days passed, in which my whole life seemed bathed in tears of repentance, and I was perfectly healed.—Kate Stone Thompson, Toledo, O.
