It is true that Christian Science teaches that the cause and foundation of all sickness is fear, ignorance, and sin; and because of this teaching, Christian Scientists have learned that suffering and sickness are neither God-ordained nor God-sent. They do not come from Him "who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases." The cause of sickness is, therefore, not to be found in God, nor His truth, nor His law, but in error and sin. But to say that sickness is a manifestation of sin demands a true definition of sin. The Christian Scientist's conception of the term is far more comprehensive than the ordinarily accepted use of the word. As an instance, to the Christian Scientist worry is sin because it is a distrust of God and a violation of the teachings of Christ Jesus. More specifically, believing in any power but God, Spirit, is sin because it violates the first commandment, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me."
