Christian Science in Denmark
It is now almost three years since Science and Health was first studied in Denmark. A Danish lady who was a governess in England learned of Christian Science while in London. She returned to Denmark and took up the work. After a short time a few became interested, and meetings began to be held at her home, she serving as First Reader.
Since my healing, eight years ago, I have worked and prayed that I might one day be able to bring to my family in Denmark the truth which, in view of their many sicknesses, they so much need. I cannot, therefore, express the joy it was to me to see how ready their thoughts were for the new understanding; to see the little meetings increase from a few until there were sometimes almost thirty gathered to drink in every word as the Reader translated parts of our Leader's "Key to the Scriptures" to them. There was no opposition whatever. The interpretation which Christian Science gives us of the Bible seemed natural and beautiful to them. I could not tell them enough. How I wished I could translate more correctly for them, but I had somewhat lost command of my native language, and we eagerly looked forward to the Sunday and Wednesday evening services, the latter especially. On Sunday the Science and Health references are read in both English and Danish, but on Wednesday evening only the translation is given, so this service is especially enjoyable to them.
The Reader's home has become too small for the Wednesday evening meetings, so that services are now held in a private school. There is also a Sunday School for the children, which was begun while we were in Denmark.
