From childhood I was subject to fainting spells, and from about ten years of age until I was healed through Christian Science, six years ago, I could not see, hear, or even think about disease or accidents of any kind without fainting, and I would not feel like myself again until the next morning. When about thirteen I commenced having trouble in breathing, and after any exertion, such as climbing stairs, trying to walk rapidly, or if I was startled, it was impossible for me to lie down and sleep. Many nights I had to sit up all night, struggling for breath, my heart beating as though it would burst. My left arm had a habit of falling by my side every now and then, and the pain and great discomfort in the shoulder seemed almost more than I could bear. Finally, after a slight attack of the grip, my throat became so very sore that I went to a physician, who, after treating me for some time, said that I was in a very serious condition, and that I must have an operation performed. I went to another physician, and after several months of treatment the trouble continued just as bad as ever. Soon after this, an old friend of the family, who was an expert diagnostician, examined me carefully, especially my heart, and said that he would not take my case under any consideration. He told my family that my condition was most grave, and gave them the impression that little could be done for me. He has since told them candidly that he considers a miracle has been performed in my case, for at the time when he made his diagnosis, six years ago, he felt that no power on earth could save me, as the small arteries near the heart were hardening, and that I was liable to drop dead any moment. When shown that I could now run up and down stairs freely, he said there was no need to make any examination to see if I was really healed, for that was proof enough. One person, who wished to inquire very closely into my case, questioned the doctor as to whether he might not have been mistaken in his diagnosis, but he said he could not have been, for he had diagnosed the case a number of times in the hope of finding himself wrong, but it was all too apparent; that he had diagnosed several hundred such cases in large hospitals in America and Europe, and knew the disease too well to have made any mistake, much as he was puzzled to understand how the case had been healed.
This healing was accomplished almost entirely by faithfully studying "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, though some assistance was received from Christian Science practitioners. Most of my ailments were relieved almost immediately; one or two, however, were more obstinate and did not vanish absolutely for several years, although much abated, but to-day I am a throughly well woman. A troublesome skin disease which I had had from childhood, and which would break out in different parts of the body, leaving a purple scar, disappeared within one month from my hearing of Christian Science. It has never made its appearance since and every scar has also gone.
