This day, and this only,
Is ours to command.
Will we use it aright,
Or abuse in its flight
The blessings that come to our hand—
This day, and this only?

This day, and this only,
As onward we move,
With its gains, and its losses,
Its joys, and its crosses,
Is ours to improve;
This day, and this only.

This day, and this only,
Belongs to us here!
Let us live at our best;
Trust in God for the rest;
Nor harbor a fear—
This day, and this only.
