Fundamentals of Science

Anything, to be scientific, must have a basic law and be demonstrably true. The term "Science," when applied to Christianity, must mean that the Principle which governs and controls the Christ-like life is so understood, that its right application brings out the perfectness of life in each individual consciousness, and reveals man in harmonious accord with his Father, God. Our text-book, Science and Health, makes this understanding possible; hence Mrs. Eddy rightly named her discovery "Christian Science."

God is the great prima Creator, and is immutable Life. It is impossible to believe that when he could give man peace, happiness, and eternal life, God would give him sorrow, suffering, and death. It is said he does this for the good of man; but man is already good, having been created in the image and likeness of omnific good, God. This is a logical statement: cause and effect must agree and, therefore, a good creator cannot create anything that is not good.

Jesus said, speaking to the one who had been brought to him to be healed of the palsy, "Man, thy sins are forgiven thee," characterizing sickness as sin. When the Pharisees reasoned among themselves he turned to them and said, "Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk?" In view of this, can we any longer refute the possibility of the forgiveness and destruction of sin and sickness, by insisting that they are creations of God; thus declaring them real and eternal?
