I wish to tell of what Christian Science did for me...
I wish to tell of what Christian Science did for me before I was a member of a Christian Science church, although I was a believer in its teachings.
I had a son working in a mill, and one night, after midnight, I was awakened and told to come to the mill at once, as my son was hurt. I went and found him lying in the office with the American flag wrapped about him. He had been carried found the shaft and through a space of about seven inches. The flesh had been torn from his back, arms, and thighs, as my wife and I found when we examined him, and the blood flowed profusely from a cut in his head.
Four physicians were standing by him and waiting for him to die. I then spoke in the name of the Lord and said, "God is here, we need have no fear." One physician said, "The Lord helps those who help themselves." My reply was, "Man's extremity is God's opportunity." continued to declare the truth, and my son spoke and said, "Papa, put my clothes on; I am going home." The doctor told him he had sent for a carriage, but my son said he would walk. I put his clothes on and he walked home with me, three squares. The physicians followed and sewed up the wound in his head, a cut three inches long.
