When I was a child, a large copy of the Lord's Prayer hung over my bed, and every night for years I read it and re-read it; but it remained for the most part sealed from my understanding. The nights were long and full of strange fancies, for I was ill and weak, but that picture was always good company, though I more often cried over it than found any conscious joy in it.

Later, I went to live in a home where a brook ran through the grounds and the whole place was full of nature's beauty. I loved what others wrote about these beauties and I longed to have the same beautiful thoughts come to me; but do what I would to woo them, there remained a mist between.

But my childish prayer was answered; the constant struggle to see and understand was the unceasing prayer which availeth much.
