I have long felt it my duty to write and tell what Christian Science has done for me. Truth has been the only physician in our family for six years, and I could not tell all the blessings received. As I was the first to receive benefit, I will tell of some of the troubles out of which I have been lifted. I was never strong after the birth of my last child, and suffered in many ways. Ulcers of the mouth, throat, and all the mucus membranes, made life a torment for many weeks.
As medicine failed to help me, my friends wished me to try hygiene, so I went to a sanitarium where the beautiful surroundings, rest, and change seemed to do me much good, and I was discharged as cured, but in three months I was as miserable as ever. This time the trouble was called tuberculous ovaries. I went back to drugs, but steadily grew worse, and was finally advised by my physician to go to a hospital and have an operation.
I said good-by to husband and little ones, and went, with but one chance in ten of ever coming back alive, as the doctors declared. I will not picture the horrors of the operating table. I stayed alone among strangers nine weeks, then came home with an assurance from the surgeon that I would have to return for another operation in about three months. I had to wear a bandage that was very tight and uncomfortable, but the wound did not heal and the discharge soon became alarming. I dragged along in this condition for five months, when a great French doctor came to our town. I was examined by him, and he said there were wounds in the bowels through which there was a discharge, and I could not get well without having them sewed up. My condition at this time was most distressing in every way, and I was wavering between the dread of another operation and the fear of something giving way that would cause instant death, when Christian Science was recommended to me.
