Christian Scientists believe that each person should choose that system of healing which appeals to him as best to bring out peace and happiness. Christian Scientists do not declaim against physicians, nor do they claim that pureness of heart condones ignorance. Pureness of heart to a Christian Scientist means also alertness, capacity to grasp, and clearness of thought, which are the exact opposites of ignorance and sloth. Nor do they cultivate self-contentment and self-esteem. They follow strictly the teachings of Christ Jesus, which, as all know, do not teach the cultivation of material self-contentment or egotistical self-esteem. They understand disease to be unreal in the sense that it has no inherent eternal existence and will pass from mortal experience when man sufficiently understands and reflects the goodness of God "Who healeth all thy diseases."
