Christian Scientists understand this Science to be the new-old...

Christian Scientists understand this Science to be the new-old religion which was taught by Jesus, and that its works in healing the sick, like its works in reforming the sinning, are inn obedience to Christ Jesus' injunction to his followers of all times: "Preach the gospel;" "heal the sick." Christian Science seeks to elevate men morally and benefit them physically, and teaches, as does the Scripture, that "the prayer of faith shall save the sick." It reverences and does not ridicule "calloused knees." It teaches that the mother's prayer over the child's cradle is blessed. It teaches that every man, when sorely pressed by adverse fortune, if never before, as naturally seeks help by prayer as the plant in a darkened cellar seeks the sunlight. It teaches that if we do not "ask amiss," but ask with faith and understanding, our praying may help the world as well as ourselves, and that Christ's promise was not false. "Have faith in God." The facts show that the mission of Christian Science has been a beneficent one. Its followers may make mistakes, but so does the mathematician without any impeachment of the science of mathematics. Christian Scientists are seeking to stem the growing materialism of the age. They trust God and fear no evil. C. A. BUSKIRK.
