Christian Scientists believe that it is not Jesus' death,...

Lexington (Ky.) Herald

Christian Scientists believe that it is not Jesus' death, but Jesus' triumph over death that saves,—they do not look for life in death, nor for immortality in the grave. Neither do they understand that the inspired writers in referring to the incarnation, or the coming of Christ in the flesh, intended to raise questions of chemical elements or ratios. The meaning of the Greek word which is translated flesh in the New Testament is fully satisfied, especially as used in the writings of Paul and John, if we understand it to refer to that which served to identify Christ with material or human existence,—which made him one with the race of mankind,—as opposed to the spiritual life which he had with the Father.
