Not a Bad Record
Lorain (Ohio) Democrat
After the doctors and the preachers get through denouncing the Christian Scientists, perhaps we shall have time to view their case in the light of the facts, and something interesting may be discovered. The doctors say the Christian Scientist are not scientific and the preachers say they are not Christian but after all, the only question the great masses of humanity will want decided is, whether they are doing good for themselves and the world with uncommon philosophy.
As almost every one knows, the devotees of Christian Science claim that consistent, faithful practice of the principles of the faith results in an extraordinary degree of bodily good health, there are certainly many living examples among the sect of the power of the belief as manifested in practical results.
It is hardly to be expected that anything with which human agencies have to do should be absolutely perfect or work out just right in all cases, so if the Christian Scientists do some of them die it is nothing remarkable. But if it can be demonstrated that a far less percentage of them die than of other sects, then it would indicate that these people must have something that is worth looking into very carefully. It is no use to get excited and denounce these new things that come up, and a little thorough investigation will no hurt any one. Christian Science is not the first or the first or the last theory that the people have been or will be called upon to consider, and we might as well get into the habit of looking at things we do not understand, in a calm and considerate spirit.
