If thou draw out thy soul to the hungry (Isa. 58:10)

Those who prepared some of the ancient Greek, Latin, and Syriac versions of our Old Testament found at this point, in the very early Hebrew text available to them, the form lachmeka (meaning "thy bread") instead of naphsheka (thy soul), the word which appears in the Hebrew text as we have it today. On the basis of this early evidence, Smith renders, "If you ... share your bread with the hungry"; while Moffatt has, "If you bestow your bread upon the hungry."
