RADIO PROGRAM No. 70 - Where Are We Safe?

HOST: People often think that being safe is a matter of luck or chance, simply being fortunate enough to be away from some trouble spot. The uneasiness they feel about safety in this nuclear age is typified by a statement Dean Brelis makes in his book, "Run, Dig or Stay?" He writes: "Whether to seek sanctuary underground or whether to stay in the streets and face infinity is no mean question." (Beacon Press, Boston. Copyright, 1962, Dean Brelis.)

What are your thoughts about this? Where are we safe?

SPEAKER: Our safety actually does lie in coming face to face with infinity, not in the way Mr. Brelis meant, but in quite a different sense. I don't mean resigning ourselves to oblivion. Nor do I mean closing our eyes to present-day threats of annihilation.
