It was in April, 1955, that I turned to Christian Science for a double healing. I had heard that this Science healed mentally, but I did not know anything more about it. A broken engagement had filled my heart with despair, and, at the same time, a malignant growth had appeared on my body, causing intense suffering. Because I was terrified of operations, I turned to mental healing.

Passing a Christian Science Reading Room, I was inspired to enter it. I put my hand on a copy of The Christian Science Journal and purchased it. Then, once at home, I noticed it contained a list of practitioners. I went through the list of those in the London area and selected one name and address because of the practitioner's proximity to my home. I rang up and told the practitioner I knew nothing about Christian Science but was in desperate need of healing.

Mercifully he agreed to see me, and I shall never forget the comfort I felt after my first visit to him. It was only a matter of days before the heartache ceased. I seemed to see the word "joy" written in letters of light in front of my eyes, and as I left a Reading Room one day—this also is unforgettable—the feeling of sorrow dropped to the ground, exactly like a cloak. I was heart free!
