For twenty-five years I suffered...

For twenty-five years I suffered from a chronic mental illness which stemmed from a deeply rooted sense of inferiority and insecurity. Medical help failed to effect a cure, and I continued to suffer from this distressing malady. A friend introduced me to Christian Science and encouraged me to study the textbook by Mrs. Eddy. It gave me much-needed comfort, and I returned to it at irregular intervals when the need seemed great.

Inasmuch as this was not sufficient, I decided to attend church services regularly, study the Bible Lesson, set out in the Quarterly, and in due time apply for membership in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, thereby receiving the spiritual support of the entire movement, wherein I would acquire a better understanding of God and His healing power in Christian Science.

I was accepted by a branch church, but the understanding I was seeking did not come about as readily as I anticipated. I was led to a practitioner, who taught me a great deal while administering her healing treatments. The truth she expressed remained with me. Even then the healing was manifested slowly because mortal mind was so snarled with error of every conceivable description.
