In 1939 I was injured seriously in a highway accident. I suffered damage to my spine, and an osteoarthritic condition developed. The nervous system was also affected.

After much suffering for three years, I was told that my only hope of relief from the spinal condition was to wear a medical collar and to sleep with my head in a special apparatus to afford traction twenty-four hours a day. In addition, I underwent shock therapy to overcome the nervous condition. After numerous treatments the only thing left for me to do, according to a physician, was to have an operation on my brain. I even contemplated suicide.

It was at this extreme period that I was told of Christian Science by a friend. He loaned me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and I can honestly say with humble gratitude to an ever-loving God that my healing came before I had finished the book. The healing was so complete that after it I was able to win three national handball championship and numerous city, state, and regional titles.
