When we were being taught...

When we were being taught sacred stories in school, and later at catechism class, these thoughts came to me persistently: Since Jesus healed the sick instantaneously and without medication, why cannot we do the same nowadays? Why are medicine and doctors needed? Is something lacking? I found the answer to these questions a few years later.

A friend told me of Christian Science and said that this Science healed the sick as they were healed in the time of Jesus, I told this friend I believed in such a method, and quite soon I received proof of it when my horse was healed of apoplexy through spiritual means alone. That was thirty-two years ago, and from that day on Christian Science has been my only help. I had at last found what I had so long sought.

In my work I was once called upon to trim a huge stone placed on a staging nearly a yard above the ground. Most unexpectedly the stone fell down on my foot. The pain was intense, but I made an effort to work prayerfully as we are taught to do in Science. Several times I said "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health In Mrs. Eddy, p. 468), and the ninety-first Psalm.
