PROGRESS THROUGH PURIFICATION
Referring to the destruction of error through Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 233), "This is an element of progress, and progress is the law of God, whose law demands of us only what we can certainly fulfil."
If we are faithfully studying Christian Science and earnestly striving to put the truth into practice, we shall be going forward daily by overcoming error in ourselves. We shall be seeking purification of our thinking and lives by leaving behind a false sense of self and by demonstrating our real selfhood as the perfect likeness of God.
Sometimes we may hear a Christian Scientist say: "I have had no new healings lately. Everything has gone well." While such a state is to be desired, it should not make one complacent. Perhaps such a one has reached a stagnation point in his demonstration of Christian Science and has temporarily stopped growing Spiritward. He may be missing the most important part of this religion, namely its regenerative aspect.
