PRAYER OR PILLS?

In her book "Miscellaneous Writings." Mary Baker Eddy says (p. 369): "Metaphysical healing seeks a wisdom that is higher than a rhubarb tincture or an ipecacuanha pill. This method is devout enough to trust Christ more than it does drugs."

The proof that such seeking brings results is brought out in the many healings recorded in the testimony sections of the Christian Science periodicals and in the thousands of healings gratefully acknowledged at the Wednesday testimony meetings in Churches of Christ, Scientist. These testimonies prove also that the system of divine metaphysical healing, revealed in Christian Science, heals all types of physical and mental ailments, many of which had not been relieved by pills or other types of material treatment.

The writer, for example, had followed all the rules laid down by various doctors of medicine, including quite a rigid diet, even giving up his position in the hope that complete rest might heal him of a stomach ailment and hemorrhages. But he grew no better. Finally, the doctors advised that he go to the hospital for observation and for an operation should they consider it necessary in order to discover the cause of his illness and to try to heal it.
