My first attitude toward Christian Science...

My first attitude toward Christian Science was resistance, even though I did not know a single thing regarding its teachings. I had married into a family of Christian Scientists and was convinced that they would try to force it on me. This they did not attempt to do. I have since appreciated the wisdom they expressed, and, in turn, I have used the same method with other newcomers to our family.

Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, declares (Unity of Good, p. 5), "No stubborn purpose to force conclusions on this subject will unfold in us a higher sense of Deity; neither will it promote the Cause of Truth or enlighten the individual thought."

But my thought was being prepared for the truth; and in a few months Christian Science was presented to me by someone not in the family, and I accepted it. About this time, I made a visit to my former home. Here there was constant talk of ailments. At the conclusion of my visit, it was a relief to me to be back where error was minimized and where Christian Science set the standard of conversation and living. This experience awakened my appreciation of Christian Science and launched me into a consecrated study of its teachings.
