BEING AND BECOMING

Deep in the heart of most individuals is a conviction of true worth. Such spiritual conviction is the voice of God speaking to human consciousness, informing it of man's nature as the son of God and of grand destinies to be fulfilled. "Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, that I am God" (Isa. 43:12). According to Holy Writ, the beauty of man's holiness is an established fact; he is now, and ever will be, the unclouded image of perfect Mind, God.

Because of belief in a power opposed to God, the so-called carnal mind in its arrogance perverts these fundamental truths, and through a false sense of superiority or an equally erroneous sense of inferiority, it reverses and subverts the angelic messages of good. Christian Science insists that men must sometime triumph over every adversary, every evil force, and prove in the courts of human experience the absolute, spiritual royalty of their being as God's reflection.

Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (pp. 253, 254), "The divine demand. 'Be ye therefore perfect,' is scientific, and the human footsteps leading to perfection are indispensable."
