When I was a child, my home...

When I was a child, my home was broken up, and from the age of four to fourteen I lived with various relatives. I had a growing feeling of not being loved or understood. I also suffered from a thyroid condition for which I once inadvertently took an overdose of medicine, resulting in a nervous condition. This, together with a feeling of being lonely and unwanted, led to an extreme mental disturbance, which was thought by my relatives to be a form of insanity, since there was a hereditary tendency toward this illness in my family.

The illness reached a peak, and I had to be taken out of school. At this desperate point, Christian Science was presented to me. A friend who was a student of this religion recommended that I go to see a practitioner who lived in a town near me. I did so and immediately felt the effects of her loving, consecrated work.

A paralyzed condition in one part of the body disappeared in one treatment. The nervous condition and mental disturbance disappeared gradually over a period of about six weeks, during which time I studied the chapter on Prayer in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, as the practitioner had directed me to do. The healing was so complete that I was able to go back to school and to enjoy all normal activities.
