When I was a small child, my surroundings were so discordant that I prayed earnestly, almost desperately, for peace and harmony. Since there was no change, I thought God did not hear my prayer. I was always trying to appease discord and often trying to run from it.

In later years a discordant condition resulted in a severe stomach irritation, and I did not know from which I suffered most, pain or fear. During that time a kind neighbor gave me a copy of Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy. It interested me immediately because it contained the answer to what I had been seeking so long. Even now it seems remarkable to me that a little book could have changed my entire life.

After reading Science and Health from cover to cover, I stopped going to the doctor and gave up all medicine. I am grateful to say this was done gladly and without much effort. Then, with the help of the Lesson-Sermons from the Christian Science Quarterly, I began to search and correct my own thoughts, trying to put into practice each day what I had learned.
