One of my first healings in Christian Science...

One of my first healings in Christian Science was that of the tobacco habit, to which I had been a slave for over twenty years. Many times I had tried to free myself from this through will power, and I had even tried an herb cure that was advertised in a popular magazine. Each time, within a few days, I would be smoking as much as, if not more than, before.

While talking to a Christian Science practitioner about another problem, I mentioned that I should like to rid myself of the tobacco habit. I was lovingly led to understand that "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good" (Gen. 1:31) and that tobacco cannot have dominion over God's man and cannot enslave him.

We are also told in the first chapter of Genesis of the dominion we have "over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth" (Gen. 1:26). Surely this dominion included the right to freedom from the belief of enslavement to a harmful habit.
