Many years ago I was in a miserable state of health, suffering from severe attacks of asthma and chronic constipation. The doctors had ordered me to bed for three weeks, and I was very much depressed and unhappy.

A friend who was a Christian Scientist came to see me. She said, "I wish you would try Christian Science and allow me to ask a practitioner to help you."

My reply was: "I will try anything. I am desperate." She wrote out the Lesson-Sermon citations from the Christian Science Quarterly for that week and gave them to me to read. She also lent me a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
