FULFILLMENT IS NOW

One day, while contemplating the fact of God's allness, His infinite presence and power, a student of Christian Science was suddenly awakened to see the many suggestions of incompleteness or unfulfilled desires she had been accepting as realities. It was shocking to find that she had inadvertently accepted a belief of waiting for someone to become healthier, for a financial condition to improve, for human relations to be harmonized, and even for an increased appreciation of the activities of the Christian Science movement to become evident.

It was now apparent to her that such acceptance of either delayed or incomplete good was utterly contrary to the teachings of Christian Science and especially to its second tenet. She had seen many healings take place as the result of obedience to that tenet, which is found on page 497 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and which reads as follows: "We acknowledge and adore one supreme and infinite God. We acknowledge His Son, one Christ; the Holy Ghost or divine Comforter; and man in God's image and likeness."

It became clear to the student that one cannot love God supremely and at the same time harbor a false god or a belief in time as having power, since God, the eternal, is omnipotent. The world suggests that we must let time elapse before we can expect fulfillment, but what has time or the revolutions of the planets to do with infinite Love's revelation? The planets merely indicate the beauty, activity, and harmony of Love's universal ideas; they do not affect the forever unfolding of those ideas in any respect, either to delay their manifestation or to further it.

Christian Science is the Science of Love's fulfillment. Our Leader writes in Science and Health (p. 467): "The first demand of this Science is, 'Thou shalt have no other gods before me.' This me is Spirit. Therefore the command means this: Thou shalt have no intelligence, no life, no substance, no truth, no love, but that which is spiritual."

God, Spirit, is boundless Love, forever present and omnipotent. Being infinite and almighty, Love is the only cause, the only Life or activity. Since there is not a moment when Love is not All, there is not a moment when perfection is not expressed. Every moment divine Love is manifesting itself as complete goodness, the entire substance of perfection, here and everywhere.

This absolute, provable truth can be demonstrated by any sincere seeker in Christian Science. But the truth must be lived consciously and continually if we are to enjoy the fruits of fulfillment. True prayer is the key that opens the way to fulfillment. However, this does not mean praying to God to amend, adjust, or complete something. True prayer exalts human desire and silences the clamor of material sense until the stillness and joy of ever-present Love utterly fill consciousness. It is the daily and hourly surrender of material beliefs to Love's allness, and our acknowledgment of our relationship to Love as its inseparable, exact expression.

Love's ideas constitute man and the universe. Health is a quality of Love and is therefore always in full manifestation. This is true of all Love's attributes—beauty, abundance, harmony, appreciation; they are immediately and continuously at hand. Boundless Love is the only cause, and man and the universe are conditioned by that perfect cause. So man and the universe are being spiritually blessed this very moment with the overflowing goodness of Love.

Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, was so keenly aware of Love's ever-present fulfillment that he was able to reject immediately all contrary suggestions. Through his works, he brought out the fullness of Life, abundant supply, and complete freedom. He never accepted the thought of another god in the form of a time element, but was perpetually aware of Love's fullness of being. He loved God supremely and proved in practical ways the truth of the Psalmist's description of Love's activity (Ps. 145:16), "Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing."

Mrs. Eddy, Jesus' faithful follower and the inspired Leader of the Christian Science movement, loved God supremely. This was evidenced in her great love of mankind. Her writings embrace the reader in that love. Her acknowledgment of God's greatness may be seen in this passage from "Miscellaneous Writings," in which she says (p. 124): "For 'who is so great a God as our God!' unchangeable, all-wise, all-just, all-merciful; the ever-loving, ever-living Life, Truth, Love: comforting such as mourn, opening the prison doors to the captive, marking the unwinged bird, pitying with more than a father's pity; healing the sick, cleansing the leper, raising the dead, saving sinners."

In Love's universe there is no waiting, no delay. Love is fulfilling all good now.
