As a child I had attended two different Sunday Schools; I also attended an orthodox church regularly, but I never seemed to get much out of it. The Bible was to me a closed book. I did not really study it until Christian Science was presented to me. Now, through Christian Science, I understand the Bible better, and my study of it and of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy has given me a sure foundation on which to work.

I did not come into Christian Science for a physical healing. However, after seeing what this religion had done for my brother, who had taken medicine most of his earlier life but now was healthy and free, I was convinced to a certain degree that this truth not only could heal disease but could give one a higher sense of peace and a better understanding of God.

At an opportune time my brother had presented me with a copy of Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy. I began to read the Bible Lesson from the Christian Science Quarterly each day but did not really study it. One day our four-year-old son had a severe case of croup. He had had this condition off and on since he was a baby, and although we had had medical help, he had never been freed from the attacks.
