Activities for the Armed Services

Christian Science Activities for the Armed Services receives gratifying reports on the activities of its field workers. This column describes the work of a Christian Science Minister at a large Army installation in Kentucky.

Young people in the Armed Forces are faced with many challenges. They must adjust to being away from home, to living with others whose backgrounds and standards differ from theirs, and to the rigid discipline of military life.

To help meet these and other conditions at a large Army fort, the Christian Science Minister for the Armed Services conducts Christian Science Sunday services and midweek meetings. Because of the size of the post, arrangements are made to pick up and return those who are a great distance from the chapel. By accepting responsibilities and serving in different ways, the Christian Scientists at this fort are made to feel a part of this Mother Church activity while away from their home churches. Each Sunday one of this group assists the Minister as Second Reader.
