When I was a small child I became...

When I was a small child I became ill. As my parents had only recently become interested in Christian Science and were fearful of my condition, a doctor was called in who diagnosed the case as diphtheria and stated that I would have to be moved to a quarantine station. He agreed to wait until the next morning before ordering the move. A Christian Science practitioner was asked for treatment for me, and this was lovingly given. Next morning the doctor was amazed to find me happily playing and completely healed.

I think perhaps my first real appreciation of Christian Science came when I was a teen-ager in employment away from home in a small country town, and a sprained ankle was healed in a few minutes. This was accomplished as "the scientific statement of being" from page 468 of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, was fervently and understandingly held in consciousness. This statement declares in part: "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all."

Since the other occupants of the house were rather antagonistic to what the imagined Christian Science to be, medical treatment would undoubtedly have been summoned had not the truth overcome the difficulty so swiftly.
