WE HAVE NO ENEMIES

In the study of Christian Science one learns the great power of un-selfed love in daily thought and deed. He finds the basis for the solution of every human ill in the exercise of divine Love.

Through the consistent practice of spiritual love—the reflection of the pure love which comes from God—we find that we have no enemies. To understand this pronouncement let us see what constitutes an enemy. An enemy is usually considered to be one who hates another or wishes to injure him in some way. The Apostle Peter referred to the devil as the adversary, in other words, one who opposes.

In Christian Science we learn that the devil or adversary is not a material personality but a lie or any false belief. An enemy, therefore, is not actually a person. Mary Baker Eddy says (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 8), "Can you see an enemy, except you first formulate this enemy and then look upon the object of your own conception?" And further on she writes, "Simply count your enemy to be that which defiles, defaces, and dethrones the Christ-image that you should reflect."
