GOD IN OUR MIDST
From ancient times those with prophetical insight have seen that God is in the midst of mankind and that His presence is demonstrable. Moses discerned God "in the midst of the earth" (Ex. 8: 22), and he proved the power of God right where the mortal sense of life seemed to be in control. The Scriptures teach this lesson plainly, and Christian Science reiterates it. Through Science many are learning that the basic facts of existence are God's presence, His idea, His government, His supremacy.
Matter would hide the presence of God in our midst, would claim to make circumstances and conditions before which God seems helpless. But He is not helpless, and neither are those who humbly acknowledge His presence and refuse to whine over their problems. What is needed in order for us to eliminate the pains and sorrows and limitations imposed by matter is the consistent realization that the Almighty is in the midst of us and that our denials of error's presence and control are potent in the light of that fact.
Christian Science takes away the seeming power of matter by showing it to be merely the reflection of mortal thought produced by a mind that is not God, hence nothing and powerless. Just as a mirage does not touch the landscape it hides, so matter does not touch God or His perfect, spiritual universe of ideas. These remain intact, needing only the spiritual perception which Christian Science awakens in individuals that they may discern what truly exists.
