In 1944, I was in Florida working...

In 1944, I was in Florida working for an airline and living with two other girls. One of these girls was a Christian Scientist. One day she developed a cold and had a painful earache. She had a sister-in-law who was a practitioner in Arizona, and she wanted me to call her brother there so that he would relate her condition to his wife.

I could not understand how in the world someone so many miles away could benefit her. However, I notified her brother by telegram. The next day my roommate was on her way to work with no trace of the difficulty that had bothered her.

For seven years I had consulted doctors regarding a rare blood condition from which I was suffering. After annually rushing me to the hospitals for transfusions and occasional surgery, they said it was a wonder I was alive. When, in addition to this trouble, I began to suffer from jaundice, the physician said there was no hope in the medical field for me. Recalling the healing of my friend, I decided to try Christian Science.

I vaguely remembered hearing one of the family mention a friend who was a Christian Scientist. I telephoned this friend and asked her to direct me to a practitioner. She did so, and I called the practitioner, who lovingly gave me help. My healing took place in thirteen days; it was complete and has been permanent.

In the proportion that I have been willing to listen for and then to follow God's direction, I have found that through my study of Christian Science my character has been transformed. Much unkindness, false pride, impatience, criticism, and sensuality have been replaced by kindness, purer thinking, patience, love, and a clearer understanding of man's completeness and satisfaction as the reflection of God.

Christian Science has brought me through a wilderness of illness and unhappiness to an oasis of calm and peace. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church.—(Mrs.) Kathlynn M. A. W. Fast, Portland, Oregon.
