Christian Science was presented to me at a time of utmost need when, following a disastrous business crash in the so-called "economic blizzard" of 1931, I was facing a serious crisis in my life. A friend and colleague, to whom I am deeply grateful, only needed to take me to a Christian Science lecture and a Wednesday testimony meeting for me to realize that I had at last found the religion I had long been seeking.

The rich promise of those early days has been amply fulfilled, and if in the course of the years since then my pathway has been at times thorny and uphill, such understanding as I have gained and the truly inspiring help of practitioners have always led me out of the desert of error into the oasis of divine Love.

One of the first and remarkable healings I experienced was that of eczema, which appeared on my leg and from which I had suffered ever since boyhood. I did no specific work about this, but through the renunciation of smoking and drinking, my thought had been uplifted sufficiently to let in the truth. So gentle and untroubled was its healing effect that I never knew just when the healing took place.
