A MOMENT'S WORK

In her definition of "day" in the Glossary of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 584): "The objects of time and sense disappear in the illumination of spiritual understanding, and Mind measures time according to the good that is unfolded. This unfolding is God's day, and 'there shall be no night there.'"

When the Psalmist said of God (Ps. 90:4): "A thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night," he glimpsed something of Minds measurement of time. Christian Science explains that Mind is another name for God and that Mind creates man and the universe for the purpose of unfolding infinite good. Man and the universe are spiritual ideas in Mind, not material bodies in space, and man's work is to give expression to Mind, to manifest divine good.

Man's working day is not determined by dawn and dusk, because it is illumined by the uninterrupted light of spiritual understanding. Man's work is his life, and his life is not sandwiched between birth and death, because he coexists with Mind and continues to live and work by giving expression to Mind's ideas. Each idea expressed multiplies good, and the unfoldment of good goes on in Mind's universe eternally, without any interruption or cessation.
