When I was eight years of age,...

When I was eight years of age, my younger sister and I visited a Christian Science Sunday School. From then on we were regular attendants at the Sunday School until we reached the age of twenty. So too were the other three children in our family.

I shall always be grateful for the consecrated workers in the Sunday School, who helped me gain a firm foundation in our religion. Through my childhood I used the truths I learned to heal so-called children's diseases, to help me in my schoolwork and in solving many problems of human relationship.

Later I was healed of chronic constipation, chronic intestinal influenza, gall bladder attacks, and hemorrhoids. An outstanding physical healing was that of acute jaundice just a year after my marriage. While we were moving into a new home we had built, I was stricken suddenly with this condition and was taken to the home of my parents, who lovingly cared for me while a Christian Science practitioner treated me.

At the end of one week I was able to go to our new home and take over my household duties, and at the end of the second week I returned to my office position, entirely healed. This healing took place twenty-seven years ago, and there have been no aftereffects, nor has there been a return of any symptoms.

My husband and I have relied on Christian Science for the solution of many problems while rearing two children, and it has always met our needs. This Science has been our guide in every business dealing, and it brings us "the peace of God, which passeth all understanding'" (Phil. 4:7). I have several times recovered lost articles and been protected from accidents, and I have also been freed from grief.

At a time when there was much newspaper publicity regarding bursitis, I must have taken suggestions of it into my thought. Before I realized it I was manifesting symptoms of it in a very painful degree. It incapacitated me and finally affected me nervously.

However, with the help of a Christian Science practitioner, in about ten days I overcame the erroneous thoughts of self-pity and false responsibility which I had been harboring and was entirely healed. This statement from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy was a great help (p. 463): "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive."

Some time ago I was suddenly seized with a severe pain and lost consciousness. I regained my faculties, but the pain was so acute that I felt I was again going to lose consciousness. Then I firmly declared over and over again, "God is my Life," and I was healed.

Class instruction was one of the high points of my life, and it is my desire that I may live the beautiful truths I learned there. To Mrs. Eddy, I shall be forever grateful for her unselfish sacrifices that the world might have a practical, provable religion. I am also truly grateful for the privilege of being a member of The Mother Church and a branch church and for all the activities of the Christian Science movement.—(Mrs.) Virginia Hebert Steiner, Canton, Ohio.
