"THIS IS CHRISTIAN SCIENCE"

What is Christian Science? This question has been answered by Mary Baker Eddy in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany," where she writes (p.160), "To live so as to keep human consciousness in constant relation with the divine, the spiritual, and the eternal, is to individualize infinite power; and this is Christian Science."

Christian Science, then, denotes the true way of living whereby infinite power may be individualized. Christ Jesus demonstrated the true way of living to a remarkable degree. He met and mastered such discordant conditions as insanity, immorality, fever, blindness, deafness, paralysis, leprosy, and death. These mighty works, however, should not be regarded as mere phenomenal exhibitions by a gifted personality, but as scientific demonstrations by the Founder of Christianity of the divine Principle he lived.

Jesus could heal successfully because he was willing to "keep human consciousness in constant relation with the divine, the spiritual, and the eternal." His spiritual inclinations and fidelity were apparent even at the early age of twelve, when, according to Scriptural reports, he conversed with those who were considered to be his superiors and astonished them with his understanding and answers.
