In Colossians we read (3:2),...

In Colossians we read (3:2), "Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth." When I read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy the first time, I literally drank in Mrs. Eddy's spiritual interpretation of the Lord's Prayer (pp. 16, 17). The words, "Feed the famished affections." had a special meaning for me, because my life had been devoid of affection. Then I saw that my search for affection had really been a search for God.

Previous to this time I had gone home from my work one day with a high temperature and in much pain. I was confined to my bed for two months. The doctors could not agree on a diagnosis. One day I prayed to be shown a way out of my difficulties. Shortly after that, I went to live with a woman who was a medical nurse. Although she was not a student of Christian Science, she placed Science and Health in my hands and seemed confident it would help me. I read it, and I was healed. That was in 1931.

Two years later a practitioner was giving me a treatment for a cold. She handed me Science and Health and asked me to read the answer to the question (p. 475), "What is man?" The words, "Man is not matter," stood out to me, and I had an instantaneous healing. I ran downstairs feeling as though I were on wings.
