APPRECIATION DESTROYS JEALOUSY

Everyone who has felt the pangs of jealousy knows the unhappiness that it engenders and longs to be free from its deleterious effects. Often jealousy arises from the belief of finite gradations and differences among humankind, the belief that one can do better than another and so obtain more favor or acquire more material things. Jealousy affects not only individuals, but firms, races, and nations when they contend for world trade or position.

Even a very small child may be a victim of jealousy when a new baby comes to the home. Is not this because the child has begun to believe in a material sense of itself in a world of limitations? When the little one is led to appreciate the newcomer and is assured that there is sufficient love for both of them, jealousy disappears.

There is a remedy for jealousy. It is found in the teachings of Christian Science, which are set forth in its textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and other writings by Mary Baker Eddy. These teachings are in accord with the Bible, especially Christ Jesus' words and works. They declare that God, Spirit, made man in His likeness and that He is Love, a God of justice, not partial, but giving to every individual alike the ability to demonstrate man's spiritual nature.
