It has been my good fortune to...

It has been my good fortune to be a member of a Christian Science family since birth. I have learned, though, that a child so blessed must still find Christian Science for himself. Parents may teach by example and precept, may take a child to Sunday School, may maintain a spiritual atmosphere in the home; but the acceptance of Christian Science as a religion to live by is an individual demonstration.

While growing up, I often felt bewildered by the many religions in the world and thought I would need to investigate them to determine what truth they held. Especially, I was confused to find several faiths claiming to be very much like Christian Science. This conflict ceased to trouble me when I realized that our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, received Christian Science as a revelation from God and that it is not a product of human reasoning.

Mrs. Eddy writes (Science and Health, p. 110), "No human pen nor tongue taught me the Science contained in this book. Science and Health; and neither tongue nor pen can overthrow it." My recognition of the divine origin of Christian Science has given me full faith in its teachings, and I have had abundant proof that this Science presents the Comforter promised by Christ Jesus.
